Is Alam worth the hype?

Located on the busy Coventry road, Alam stands out from the hubbub with its traditional frontage. It looks like maybe it was a public house is a previous life. Step inside and the tradition is replaced with a high spec, contemporary interior that invites you in.

We dined in the courtyard area; a cute and quaint hidden garden that makes you feel like you’re very far from Birmingham. With private booths, hanging flowers and colour umbrellas, it sets the tone for a wonderful dining experience.

We ordered:

The portions were generous and the quality was just so so good. The chicken pakora was the best we’ve ever had and the tandoori lamb chops were super meaty and melted in the mouth.

The mixed platter was unreal! Great for sharing as there was so much choice and variety. We’d say this is good between 3/4 as a starter or 2 for main.

The dynamite prawns were super plump and juicy with a lovely level of spice to the sauce. There was the perfect balance so the delicate flavour of the prawns could still come through.

Make sure you read the descriptions carefully as some curries come on the bone which may not be to your liking. The chicken karahi had lots of depth which may have been in part because it was cooked on the bone. We loved it! It was a little greasy, but not to the extent that it spoilt it for us.

The mocktails were really well thought out and not the typical juice mix you often get. They are served with a level of dry ice drama to match the stunning surrounding.

So to answer the question…YES! Alam is a unique restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere, friendly service and fantastic food!

Food wise ordered the Tandoori lamb chops really succulent and juicy and perfectly cooked. Then had the sirloin steak with chips, veg and salad this was gigantic it was cooked perfectly and tender the chips was also enjoyable with the steak the veg however got too big for the portion size and the salad was mainly rocket.

For drinks had the mojito as always taste good.

Overall the meats were cooked to perfection was a good experience.

The food is so much better than expected. Some of the reviews put us off initially but we were pleasantly surprised. We ordered steaks and grilled chicken. The service was fast and very accommodating. Was served by Waqas, so thank you to him for making our experience worth it. Will definitely go again and recommend to anyone wanting to try a new place in Birmingham.

Alums is the spot you do not want to miss! The food and service were spectacular. The outside seating area was stunning, a wonderful place to enjoy a treat and relax.

Visited Alam Restaurant with my daughter, was greeted by friendly staff and were seated almost immediately. The staff (Hanan/Hanaa) was super friendly and helped us navigate the online order, it was pretty simple and straightforward so no issues. Approximate time given was 20 mins but starters arrived early. We ordered mix grill platter and it was so flavoursome, the shish kebabs were spicy which were perfect for us. The spring rolls were lovely and crispy. (the pic is of half mix grill platter as we started to eat before taking the pic lol) For mains we had chicken karahi/nan and vegetable lasagna and chips (the chips were fluffy and delicious). Loved both dishes. It wasn't bland just the perfect spice and It really had the home-cooked taste to it, couldn't fault it! For dessert we had cookie dough and ice cream again it was perfect. The vanilla ice cream was nice and creamy and could really taste the vanilla in it, it wasn't the cheap sort of ice cream you get at some places. The salted caramel ice cream was also on point. The decor was nice and subtle and it was an open and spacious restaurant. Waiters are always nearby to help so all in all it was a perfect outing. There are mix reviews for this restaurant but for me I would recommend this to family and friends. We are hoping to go again soon. Check it out for yourself.
