Indian restaurant with Michelin-trained chef Krishnapal Negi

We took advantage of the Eat Out To Help Out scheme last month and enjoyed a lovely meal at the beautiful 1947 London restaurant in Fitrovia 🇮🇳

For starters, we ordered the Chilli Paneer, Lamb Chops and the Wild Mushroom Tikki and Chickpea Masala. The former, although delicious, was not as spicy as other places we have visited (such as Taste Of India). Our favourite item, the Lamb Chops had an incredible smokey flavour to them, and the spicy kick was just perfect 😍 The contrasting flavours of the warm, savoury mushroom tikki and spicy chickpeas with the sweetened yoghurt and tamarind sauce was great, and the perfect starter to cool down before the main course!

Our main course included A Cup of Butter Chicken (literally served in a mug!) with the Chef’s Selection of Breads, which consisted of all our favourites, from Garlic Naan to Paratha. The Butter Chicken was sweet but tangy, as it should be 👌🏽 We also asked for the Aloo Udayagri, a simple yet mouth-watering potato dish cooked in a coriander masala. The chickpeas in the Punjabi Chana Masala were not as soft as we liked, but the flavours were still there. And of course, we ordered a Lamb Dum Biryani which consisted of very generous sizes of tender lamb cooked in aromatic basmati rice and sealed with pastry... the pastry is always our favourite part 🤤😋

The service at the restaurant was quite slow and it was almost as if staff had forgotten we had ordered! However, they did apologise and gave us 60% off our bill for the inconvenience, which went to show how much they care about customer satisfaction. A thumbs up from us! 👍🏽

The atmosphere and vibes at 1947 were great; the perfect place for a meal with friends!

1947 London

It’s by far the best restaurant I have visited while touring London as a solo traveler. The interior decoration was awesome and the presence of DJ made the atmosphere really electric.
The quality of food and the deserts were outclass. Chicken biryani was delicious and the dessert was very tasty.
Staff was very friendly and welcoming. All the waiters and waitresses were trained very well and always had a smile on their face.
Receptionist was very helpful and was doing a great job.
I would love to come 1947 again and again whenever I visit London.

1947 London. The place looks lovely. The atmosphere is nice. Good music as they had a live DJ. We were a table of 12 and due to the size we had to have a set menu pre ordered. The staff were good. The cocktails were not great. Just look nice.

The food was tasty. Good size portions. But I feel the flavours were similar throughout the dishes. The lamb shank sauce was the same used with the lamb chops. But also is wasn’t mentioned anywhere that the chops come in a sauce. The chicken biriyani was tasty.

This place is very expensive for what it offers and I think more refining is needed to really make it stand out as an amazing Indian fine dining restaurant. Right now it’s somewhat tasty food that looks nice and is good to showcase on social media.

Not sure I would come back anytime soon.

1947London has to be one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in a while. The service was incredible, we had the manager and other staff members come and check up on us and engaging in conversation every so often. It felt as if we were well taken care of.

The interior of the restaurant is really cool. Our table was placed right in front of the kitchen so we could see how the food was made.

We didn’t have to wait that long for food, and I have to say it was incredible. My favourite was the Okra dish. I highly recommend getting this if you come here with some of the butter naan, it’ll be the best thing you have ever tasted.

I would definitely come here again. 5/5 Stars!

WOW! Everything here was very good, aside from the server forgetting to take my main course order. Food was absolutely delicious with some extra drama and excitement thrown in here and there with the coconut curry presentation and gold leaf. Loved the cocktails. Very good Indian food and lovely restaurant atmosphere.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at this restaurant! Despite some recent reviews from people who are clearly never happy & hard to please… we really liked the effort that has been put into the décor, with low lighting and soft music creating a nice ambience.

The service was efficient and quick but for us the star of the show was the amazing food!

Thoroughly enjoyed everything we had but with particular mention of the Samosa Chaat starter and the Signature Coconut Prawns main course which were both amazing.

It was all washed down with their great cocktails. If we had any minor suggestion for improvement, it would be limited to perhaps serving traditional full size freshly cooked poppadoms rather the mini variety, other than that we loved it all! Thanks Ajay and rest of the team at 1947. Will be recommending to all family and friends!
