Mei Mei Borough Market

My son had heard of Mei Mei from a YouTube channel he watches, Uncle Roger. So when it clicked for him that we were visiting the UK, we just had to go. We love food review and cooking shows. It was a delight to discover that the food at Mei Mei was just as tasty as Uncle Roger lead us to believe. My son wants to say his food was tasty, it arrived quickly and that when we visit the UK again, we need to go back 😊

The Michelin guide says that to be two stars requires excellent cooking, making a visit worth a detour. Well on a recent trip to London I went more than an hour out of my way to visit Mei Mei and I'm happy to say it was well worth it. Just like the hawker markets in Singapore the food is served humbly, best eaten at the stall front bench along your fellow diners. The food is fresh and vibrant.

Came here twice for dinner, ordered the same round of dishes each time. Chicken rice, chilli crab and side of vegetables. Obviously this is a feast for 2, would probably be nice for three people. Chicken is good not mind blowing but the quality is definitely there. However, I think the best experience about Mei Mei is their chilli crab sauce. This chilli crab sauce is honestly the best I’ve had. Dare I say it’s better than most of the ones I’ve had in Singapore. I would love it if there could be a dish with just the sauce and the mantou. So I don’t need to always have crab to taste this goodness. 🥹🥲 eating crab is very tiring hahaha. Love it though but it’ll be nice if there’s an option to have the same sauce with perhaps prawns instead. Easier to peel 🤪🦐
